New Records Officers Bootcamp
Thursday, January 21, 2027 – Friday, January 22, 2027
Two days for anyone appointed as a records officer in the last eighteen months — and for anyone who has been doing it longer and never had this explained. Worth 5 education points.
Held in January because most Clearwater appointments follow the November municipal elections, and because a new clerk’s first serious records request tends to arrive in February.
Day one — the law you cannot avoid
Chapter 42 in the morning: what a request is, what a response must contain, the five-day clock and the ten-day extension. Chapter 38 in the afternoon: notice, agendas, and the minutes you will be producing next week.
Day two — the desk
The General Retention Schedule and how to read a series number. The disposition log. The certification you will be asked to sign and what it commits you to. Then two hours of open questions with three veteran clerks, which runs over every year and is left deliberately unstructured.
Practicalities
$180 for members, $260 for non-members, lunch both days included. Twenty-four places. Sign up for Clerk-to-Clerk at the same time — matching runs in January and a bootcamp cohort makes the best mentees.
