CAMRO Institute — July 2027

Monday, July 12, 2027 – Friday, July 16, 2027

Five days, residential, on campus. The Institute is how most members make real progress toward the CCRO — the week is worth 12 education points, a fifth of the credential.

Instruction is by Fairholm State faculty and by senior Clearwater clerks, which is the combination that makes it work: the law from people who teach it, the practice from people who do it.

The week

| Day | Domain | | |—|—|—| | Monday | Records law | Chapter 42 end to end. Exemptions, severance, denial, and the appeal you want to avoid. | | Tuesday | Retention and disposition | The General Retention Schedule, series analysis, the disposition log, and the 2027 revision. | | Wednesday | Meetings and minutes | Notice, agendas, motions, executive session. Includes a supervised minute-taking exercise from recorded audio. | | Thursday | Electronic records | Email, text messages, shared drives, and what HB 1149 would change. The hardest day and the one members rate highest. | | Friday | Public service | Requester relations, fee estimation, and half a day on elections administration. Close at 3:00 pm. |

Practicalities

Residential in Kestrel Hall on campus. Single rooms, breakfast and lunch included, one group dinner on Wednesday.

Member rate $890 including accommodation. Municipal members may send a second attendee at $740. Four Institute scholarships cover tuition, lodging and a travel stipend — applications open 1 December and close 31 January, with priority to municipalities under 2,500 population and to Districts 11 and 12.

Registration opens 1 February and the week sells out most years by the end of April. Forty places.

Bring

Your municipality’s current retention schedule, one real records request you have handled, and one you are stuck on. Thursday afternoon is built around what people bring.
