Post a vacancy
Free for member municipalities. $75 otherwise. Listed for 60 days.
What to send
1. The position and the municipality
Exact title as the governing body approved it, the municipality, and the district. “Clerk-Treasurer, Ellis Hollow, District 12.”
2. A salary range, not "competitive"
We will not post a listing without a range. Clerks talk to each other and a withheld range reads as a bad one. If the range is set by ordinance, say so.
3. Hours, and whether they are honest
A 24-hour post that is really 35 hours in election years should say that. The single most common reason a new clerk leaves within a year is that the advertised hours were not the actual hours.
4. A closing date and a named contact
A person and an address, not a portal link alone. Half of the applicants for a small-town clerk post will have a question before they apply.
What we do not post
Vendor and consultant positions, recruiter listings that do not name the municipality, and anything without a salary range.
We also do not post positions that require CCRO certification at the time of application unless the municipality has genuinely considered whether that is necessary. Chapter 44 requires a certified records officer; it does not require the person to arrive certified, and insisting on it in a state with 214 municipalities and roughly 340 certified officers is how a post stays open for a year.
